Riverside, San Bernardino County prep for census amid fears of undercount
Community organizations, government officials and educators came together last week to form the Inland Empire Complete Count Committee, which will spread awareness about the 2020 census, particularly where responses to census survey requests via mail have been far below average.
The committee could have its work cut out for itself, however.
Riverside and San Bernardino have historically been two of the nation’s most difficult-to-count counties. But the Supreme Court’s looming decision on whether to include a question about citizenship status in the census could exacerbate the problem by deterring responses in the region’s immigrant communities, leading to an inaccurate count.
